In the three gospel accounts, we find that Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it to the disciples and told them to "take and eat; this is My body." Jesus blessed and prayed over the bread before it was broken. This was symbolic of His body as being whole and unblemished as He was offered as a sacrifice upon the cross. He was a perfect sacrifice and would provide many benefits for His disciples of that day and future ____________________________________________________ The Cup
Jesus also took the cup and after having given thanks, gave it to His disciples and told them to drink of it, stating that it was to be done in remembrance of Him. The cup should contain fruit from the vine. Some congregations use wine, some may use grape juice. The main emphasis is remembering what Jesus did for us. Get a cup of fruit juice of the vine (grape, wine, etc.) and drink all of it. Refer to the scriptures above. ____________________________________________________ When To Take The Lord's Supper Jesus set the pattern when He said, "As often as you do it, do it in remembrance of me." Therefore, He set no certain date, neither did He specify how often this should be done. Some may say, "well, I will take it once every ten years. Others may desire to take it on a daily basis." Jesus being the Father's Son just wants us to remember what He did for us on the cross of Calvary. Shedding His precious blood for our sins therefore, we should not forget that it was and is His precious blood that purchased our salvations. Without which to this day we would be doomed. doomed. Refer to the scriptures above. ___________________________________________________________ Devine Instructions And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it and broke it, and gave it to them and said, Take, eat, this is My Body. Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. And he said to them, This is my Blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many. Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when l drink it new in the Kingdom of God." (Mark 14:22-25). Today we are to express to our Father, through His Son, our thanks for the giving of His Son upon the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, prior to breaking the bread. This should help us to remember the perfect sacrifice of Christ's body as it was offered upon the cross. As He underwent great suffering even so we today must be willing to suffer as His disciples. The breaking of the bread will strengthen us to be willing and prepared to undergo the suffering that may come into our lives as we live for Him. Refer to the scriptures above.
